Pricing

Pricing varies from litter to litter. Every puppy born to Dances With Dogs Retrievers, from the raising of the parents, to the breeding and whelping process, to the socialization, and finally the puppy going to start a new life with their new families is handled with calculated care and unconditional love by our family.

When Pricing Is Determined

Pricing for a litter is determined after 45 days of pregnancy has been achieved and pregnancy has been confirmed for a second time

through x-rays of the Dam. Pregnancy is confirmed at 30 days through ultrasound, and then an x-ray is taken at 45 days to determine litter size. This is done for the safety of the Dam so we know at whelping what to expect so we can aid her in delivery. Whelping generally takes place after about 63 days. Litter size is not released for several weeks after birth and at 5 to 6 weeks of age pictures of the available puppies are placed on the website for viewing. We take that time to decide which, if any puppies will be staying with us at Dances With Dogs Retrievers to either become a part of our program or become one of our Therapy Dogs. In addition we take that time to familiarize ourselves with each pups personality so we can aid in placement with the families.

Deposits

Deposits can be made any time after pregnancy is confirmed to secure a place in the picking order for any litter. We cannot make any guarantees of color, or sex until after the puppies reach 5 to 6 weeks of age. Most of our litters either sell out before this time, sometimes even before birth, through deposits. We highly recommend placing a deposit on a litter if you are interested in obtaining a puppy for a specific Sire or Dam. We are always available through email for any questions throughout pregnancy, whelping, and the maturing of the newborns to the exciting day of meeting the new family member. For anyone picking a puppy long distance, we spend many hours and days with each puppy in every litter so we know each personality, we are more than happy to help make selections over the phone to insure that the best fit is made between puppy and their humans.

Our Lines

In our desire to continue to produce the healthiest, well-balanced puppies we can, we continue to work to better our lines by breeding only dogs that display great temperament and disposition, that are healthy and as close to confirmation perfect as possible. We choose only adult dogs that are either OFA Excellent or Good and have the appropriate clearances. All the puppies we raise, that will remain in our program,

and we go one step further and use the PennHIP method to check for hip dysplasia. This method is not objective or subjective; it is figured mathematically by measuring the level of distraction in the hips and then compared with all others in the breed throughout the United States. Most of our dogs fall into the 75th percentile or above, which is the equivalent of an OFA Excellent. One of our Studs, Dances Charcoal Dakota Pawnee came in as the top Labrador, placing in the 100th percentile and 0% of the Labrador breed placing higher than him. Using the PennHIP method of testing limits our program, it is harder to achieve a good rating, but we chose this method because we want only the best of the breed to produce our puppies.

Our Labradors are EIC tested and cleared (Exercise induced collapse (EIC) is a common cause of episodic exercise intolerance and collapse in otherwise healthy, adult, Labrador Retrievers).

We constantly have several pups in training with David James of DJ & K Kennels conditioning for Hunt Trials, these pups are the future of Dances With Dogs Retrievers. Although training is costly, (one pup could cost between $3000 and $10,000 to train) our hope is to find and breed the best all around Retriever, we are looking to breed dogs that not only have a temperament for either, working in the field or lying by the fireplace, a dog that you would trust around children, that has every benefit of health clearances for generations, has the best of pre and post-natal care available, has been handled and socialized from birth, that has a bloodline full of champions for generations including the Sire and/or Dam, and has all the drive, loyalty, focus and desire to be what makes a Retriever unique proven through training and titles.

Limited Registration

All Dances With Dogs Retrievers are sold with a Limited Registration and a Spay and Neuter Contract must be signed.

A dog registered with an AKC Limited Registration shall be ineligible to be entered in a breed competition dog show. Which no dog that has been altered by Spay or Neutering can be entered in a breed competition dog show conformation class, regardless. These events include: Obedience, Tracking, Field Trials, Hunting Tests, Herding, Lure Coursing, Agility and Earthdog.

Limited Registration certificates are white with an orange border; the Full Registration certificate is white with a purple border.
